Get answers to common questions about Sisterlocks Maintenance Session.

Most clients schedule maintenance every 4–8 weeks depending on hair growth, lifestyle, and tension tolerance. Your consultant will recommend an individualized interval to preserve neat parting and minimize stress, keeping Sisterlocks healthy while maintaining desired fullness and shape.

A maintenance session includes scalp assessment, gentle shampooing if requested, residue removal, root tightening or retightening, part grooming, and light styling. We use Sisterlocks-approved techniques and products to protect the roots and ensure each loc is uniform and clean.

Appointments vary from 60 to 180 minutes depending on density, length, and maintenance scope. Short touch-ups take about an hour; comprehensive sessions for high density or additional styling may require two to three hours. Your stylist will provide a time estimate during consultation.

Most clients experience minimal discomfort; Sisterlocks consultants use gentle tension techniques. Mild scalp sensitivity or temporary tightness can occur after retightening but typically subsides within a few days. Communicate any pain and we’ll adjust tension and technique for your comfort.

Yes — clean, product-free hair is preferred for precise maintenance. We recommend washing 24–48 hours before your appointment and avoiding heavy conditioners or oils. If washing isn’t possible, we can perform on-site cleansing but it may add time.

Maintain neatness by sleeping with a satin scarf or pillowcase, avoid heavy products, and moisturize the scalp lightly. Refrain from manipulating new growth excessively. Follow personalized tips from your consultant to preserve parts, prevent lint, and extend time between visits.
